By December 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge, the 4th Armored Division was ordered to spearhead the relief of the surrounded 101st Airborne Division at Bastogne, Belgium. Tanks of the 4th Armored Division engaged German armor and anti-tank positions in brutal winter conditions, often maneuvering under artillery fire and in poor visibility.
