The owner of Ferrari, Enzo Ferrari, refused Ford’s offer. As revenge, Henry Ford vowed to win Le Mans from Ferrari in 1966. Ford created the GT40 MK II to compete at Le Mans and collaborated with Carrol Shelby to refine the race car. In 1966, Ford won Le Mans, taking first, second and third places. The race was controversial as Henry Ford ordered the actual GT40 MK II first place racer, Ken Miles, to slow down and allow the rest of the GT40s in the race to catch up so as to make a 1,2,3 finish for the Ford. The #2 black GT40 MK II, driven by Bruce McLaren and Chris Amon was allowed to drive past Miles and become the official winner of the 1966 Le Mans. This is a limited-edition model of the blue/orange #1 GT40 MK II that Ken Miles and Denny Hulme drove in the 1966 Le Mans.
